THE ORDER OF AUGUSTINIAN RECOLLECTS CHARITABLE TRUST
The Order fulfils its principal aims through (a) formation, training and continuing education and the promotion of vocations to the Priesthood and religious life (Vocations Promotions) and (b) by prayer and pastoral work in parishes. The work includes teaching, preaching, retreat-giving, chaplaincy in schools and hospitals, and care of the elderly.
Financial health, per its FY2024 accounts
The accounts state that free reserves amounted to £749,603 at 31 December 2022, a decrease from the previous year. The Trustees consider this level of free reserves to be 'barely adequate' in light of their commitment to look after the friars in future years, particularly regarding retirement and nursing care needs. The charity reported a net expenditure for the year, relying on parish income and donations to sustain its charitable activities.
What the accounts disclose
“The calculations, based on actuarial principles, indicated that it was necessary to set aside in excess of £1,360,000 of funds in order to provide modest future resources to meet the needs of the Recollects in the years to come.”
