Society of the Sisters of Bethany
The work of the Sisters of Bethany has always been prayer for the Unity of the Church, hospitality and retreat work. Whether residential or daily the retreat creates space both individually or in groups to stand back from their daily lives and be with God in a quiet and prayerful atmosphere. We have a Novena each year for more Vocations to the Religous Life and intercede every Thursday for Unity.
Financial health, per its FY2025 accounts
The accounts state that the charity reported a net loss of £102,861 for the year, primarily due to the loss of visitor income following the closure of the Southsea house. The trustees note that this situation is expected to be short-term and resolved once the future of the Southsea house is settled, having drawn down from investments to cover outgoings. Free unrestricted reserves are held at approximately £59,000, which the trustees consider broadly in line with their policy of holding reserves to cover emergency situations and future nursing home expenses.
What the accounts disclose
“The charity has free reserves of around £59K, which represents roughly five months of unrestricted expenditure on charitable activities.” — page 7
“With the Bishop's Visitation in April 2024, the Southsea house was closed immediately to all guests and visitors for safeguarding and governance reasons.”
