ANIMAL FRIENDS OF TURKEY (AFOT)
AFOT rescues abandoned, abused and street animals. We do this by placing the animal in an AFOT foster home where it stays for the four month minimum compulsory travel wait. We promote our dogs on our website and invite applications from members of the public. Thorough checks including home checks are carried out for suitability. The animals we help are predominantly from the SW of Turkey.
Financial health, per its FY2025 accounts
The accounts state that the charity held unrestricted cash funds of £10,953 at the end of the financial year, which were sufficient to cover three months of running costs. The trustees' report notes that the charity is challenged in building meaningful reserves due to high costs per dog, with an aim to increase reserves to six months in the near future and twelve months within three years.
What the accounts disclose
“Our aim continues to be to increase this to 6 months running costs and within the next three years to hold at least 12 months reserves.” — page 6
“We therefore decided to use facilities in the nearby region of Aydin where our Trustee Lisanne Hillen also runs her own rescue, she had availability in some of her enclosures and new dogs were almost immediately saved and placed there. The added benefit was Lisanne would make no charge for food and accommodation.” — page 4
