THE CONSORTIUM FOR THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITIES (TCTC)
TCTC is an inclusive organisation supporting, promoting and developing therapeutic practice in a wide variety of settings; from formal large communities, through smaller clusters of therapeutic services and including part-time, day communities and therapeutic enabling environments.
Financial health, per its FY2024 accounts
The accounts state that the charity closed the 2024 financial year with a surplus of £21,637, driven by increased membership subscriptions and conference income. However, the trustees report that the 2025 outlook is more challenging, with projections suggesting a modest deficit due to lower-than-expected conference attendance. The Chair notes that while financial stability has improved, the charity's long-term stability remains vulnerable to sudden shocks due to its small reserves and limited resources.
What the accounts disclose
“Membership subscription income increased by 9% compared to the previous year. A three-day in-person conference was delivered, generating a strong surplus and attracting more delegates than in 2023.” — page 24
“The reserves policy was £10,000, which was considered to be enough to mitigate against financial risks. There is a need to adjust the reserves policy. Operating costs has increased, brining to the board we need to have a reserves policy that covers a years’ worth of running costs, towards £20,000 - £25,000.” — page 3
“Financial stability of TCTC is much improved – see Fitsum’s report – though our financial reserves remain small. While our strategy of having additional training events and conferences across the year, extending our work on consultation, and developing our profile publicly and professionally in order to drive up membership has been effective, the long-term stability of the Charity remains vulnerable to sudden shocks.” — page 8
